Abstract An evaluation of the effects different ice configurations on flight characteristics a fixed-wing aircraft is presented. Within joint research project German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Brazilian manufacturer Embraer simulation models three supercooled large droplet (SLD) were developed for one Phenom 300 prototype. A specific test campaign with artificial SLD shapes was conducted to gather relevant data. The configuration obtained by system identification, results SLD-ice are provided. analysis based these high-quality models: icing-induced changes performance evaluated interpretation several parameters like thrust-to-weight ratio excess power. typical degradation found all magnitude. change eigenmodes investigated in detail analysing matrix linearised at trim points. In addition, diverse (App. C SLD) discussed root locus analysed. Furthermore, ice-induced handling qualities using numerical criteria flying standard “MIL-STD-1797 A”: no significant deterioration configurations.
